EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 2

WHEREAS, the citizens of Alabama, along with United States citizens overall, have suffered severe and continuing hardships during these tough and challenging economic times; and,

WHEREAS, one of the examples of the trying times experienced by Alabamians is the lack of work for those who seek to be gainfully and fully employed; and,

WHEREAS, a clear and undeniable solution to many of the challenges experienced during these difficult times is the creation of new and better private sector jobs for Alabamians; and,

WHEREAS, increasing the number of Alabamians employed through the creation of new jobs will have a tremendous positive impact on the State of Alabama’s economy and the well-being of its citizens; and,

WHEREAS, the State of Alabama, through its governmental departments, commissions and agencies, is uniquely situated by its contact, association and involvement in a wide variety of industries, professions and trades in the private sector; and,

WHEREAS, there currently exists a wide variety of commissions, departments and agencies which have as their primary purpose the economic development of the State of Alabama; and,

WHEREAS, the government of the State of Alabama, through all of its departments, commissions and agencies, should seek to enhance and increase the job opportunities for the citizens of Alabama in the State’s private sector.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Alabama, and for other good and valid reasons, which relate thereto, do hereby direct all State of Alabama departments, commissions and agencies to include as part of their goals and objectives the creation of new and better jobs for Alabamians in Alabama’s private sector so that Alabamians will have the opportunity to be fully and completely employed.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that every department, agency and commission shall provide the Governor of the State of Alabama with a written report detailing how it intends to carry out the intentions of this Executive Order within 120 days of its issuance.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that nothing herein shall be interpreted or construed as amending, limiting or modifying the goals and objectives of any department, commission or agency with respect to economic development or the creation of jobs.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that this Executive Order shall become effective immediately upon the Governor’s signature and shall remain in effect until amended or modified by the Governor.
