Black History Month

WHEREAS, February is recognized nationally as Black History Month; and

WHEREAS, Black History Month serves as a reminder for us all to honor past sacrifices made by African-American icons whose struggles and sacrifices led to improvements and a life of equality for future generations; and

WHEREAS, Black History Month serves as a time to celebrate, and recognize the great role African-Americans had in the foundation and building of our nation and continue to provide a great source of achievements; and

WHEREAS, it is also a time to embrace, honor, and praise the ideals, achievements, and successes of African-Americans and recognize their contributions inventions, and innovations in all fields; and

WHEREAS, during this time of commemoration and reflection, it is proper to recognize and congratulate all of the programs, activities, and events that are taking place throughout the State of Alabama in observance of Black History Month; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby do proclaim the month of February 2011 as Black History Month In the State of Alabama. Given Under My Hand and the Great Seal of the Office of the Governor at the State Capitol in the City of Montgomery on the 1st day of February 2011.
