EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 7

WHEREAS, creating a competitive business environment and enhancing growth opportunities for Alabama manufacturers is a paramount goal of this Administration;

WHEREAS, the iron and steel industry in Alabama recently has experienced a period of growth, bringing with it many new jobs for Alabama citizens;

WHEREAS, Alabama is set to become the nation’s second largest steel producing state;

WHEREAS, it is a priority to explore paths for future growth, development and stability of new and existing iron and steel industries, as they are vital to the State’s economy and employment outlook;

WHEREAS, the Alabama Steel Council was created under now-outmoded industry paradigms; and,

WHEREAS, the members of the Alabama Steel Council have indicated that they can more effectively and efficiently accomplish the goals, interests and intentions of Alabama’s iron and steel industry through other existing organizations, such that the Alabama Steel Council is no longer necessary.

NOW, THEREFORE, based upon these considerations, and for other good and valid reasons thereto, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the State of Alabama, do hereby declare that the Alabama Steel Council, created by Executive Order Number 39, issued on February 13, 2003, as amended on March 3, 2008, is hereby disbanded.

BE IT ORDERED that all other matters and tasks created or directed by Executive Order Number 39, issued on February 13, 2003, as amended on March 3, 2008, are hereby cancelled and terminated and should be discontinued.

BE IT FURTHER ORDERED that this Executive Order become effective immediately upon signing and shall remain in force until such time as it is modified or rescinded by the Governor.
