A Celebration of 100 Years of PTA

WHEREAS, children and youth are recognized as the most valuable resource in the State of Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the proper training of the young people in Alabama is the responsibility of those in homes, schools, communities and places of worship; and

WHEREAS, the stated purpose of Alabama PTA is to promote the welfare of children and youth in the home, school, community and places of worship; to raise the standards of home life; to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth; to build closer relationships between the home and the school; to encourage parent and teacher cooperation in the interest of the education of children and youth; to develop united efforts between educators and the general public to secure the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education for children and youth; and

WHEREAS, the PTA, whose sole interest is the child, recognizes that the needs of all persons who care for youth and the future of this great state and nation, can be fulfilled through its non-partisan, non-sectarian membership; and

WHEREAS, for 100 years, the Alabama PTA has served the needs of children, parents and schools through active volunteerism:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 7-April 9, 2011, as

A Celebration of 100 Years of PTA

in the State of Alabama and salute members of the Alabama Congress of Parents and Teachers in this their 100th year as an organization speaking on behalf of all children and youth.
