Alabama Dropout Prevention Awareness Month
WHEREAS, the State of Alabama, with the passing of the Dropout Prevention Act, 2009-564, has recognized that students who graduate from high school have enhanced professional opportunities that reflect a positive impact on the economy of the state; and
WHEREAS, FIRST CHOICE was developed to increase students’ career awareness and ensure completion of recruitment for grade promotion and high school graduation; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama Select Commission on High School Graduation and Student Dropouts was established to develop a set of recommendations to reduce the state dropout rate and to provide a more meaningful, engaging and safe learning environment for our 21st Century learners; and
WHEREAS, partnerships with the Alabama Judicial System, state and community agencies and the private sector have provided an organized mobilization of wraparound services for students and families to address economic and social challenges; and
WHEREAS, America’s Promise Alliance and Everyone Graduates Center, Johns Hopkins University, served as the impetus in facilitating the awareness for the State of Alabama as the scales for student success were balanced with the identification and analysis of academic, behavioral and social indicators; and
WHEREAS, Alabama proudly acknowledges successes and project challenges for the future:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2011, as the kickoff to the
Alabama Dropout Prevention Awareness Month
in the State of Alabama, and support a statewide public awareness campaign and identified events.
