Environmental Health Week

WHEREAS, the field of environmental health provides important services to the people of Alabama by assuring the purity of their food, milk, shellfish, water, air and other factors in their personal and community environments; and

WHEREAS, the field of environment health has made important contributions to the dramatic increases in our life expectancy in the past century by reducing the causes of disease; and

WHEREAS, the cost-effectiveness of the field of environmental health results in the significant savings in health care costs; and

WHEREAS, most consumers are unaware of many of the traditional areas of the field of environmental health because of the success of the protection and prevention programs; and

WHEREAS, recently there has been an increase in awareness and concern about toxic and hazardous substances in our personal and community environment; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated professionals in the field of environmental health come from the public sector and private enterprise, with a common interest in protecting the public’s health; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Environmental Health Association, the leading professional organization in the field, has undertaken a program of information about personal and community environmental health concerns:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 25 through April 29, 2011 as

Environmental Health Week

in the state of Alabama.
