Governor Bentley Statement Regarding the DROP Repeal Passing the Senate
MONTGOMERY— Governor Robert Bentley issued the following statement today regarding the repeal of the DROP program passing through the Alabama Senate.
“Today members of the Senate took a major step forward in making sure Alabama has a balanced and responsible budget. By voting to repeal DROP, the Senate has taken steps to save our Education Trust Fund an estimated $35 million. DROP has overly taxed our retirement system. The taxpayer simply cannot afford to sustain the continued high cost of teacher retirement and health care. I thank the Alabama Senate in taking this important step, and I will watch with interest as the DROP Repeal Bill moves through the House.”
