National Nursing Home Week

WHEREAS, the citizens of Alabama now residing in nursing homes have greatly enriched the heritage, success and growth of our state; and

WHEREAS, our nursing home residents of any age or ability are themselves living history and a precious resource that should be treasured by all Alabamians; and

WHEREAS, the staff and volunteers in nursing homes help residents live life to their fullest potential by providing a holistic approach to long term care; and

WHEREAS, the member nursing homes of the Alabama Nursing Home Association are holding events in observance of Nursing Home Week guided by this year’s national theme of “Fulfilling the Promise”; and

WHEREAS, National Nursing Home Week begins on Mother’s Day, May 8, 2011 and continues through Saturday, May 14, 2011; and

WHEREAS, this will be the 44th anniversary of National Nursing Home Week:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 8 through May 14, 2011, as

National Nursing Home Week

in the State of Alabama and urge all Alabamians to join in the observance of National Nursing Home Week by visiting with residents, staff and volunteers at a nursing home to learn about long-term care and how nursing homes fulfill their promise of caring for the whole person.
