Siblings Day
WHEREAS, Siblings Day follows the spirit of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, a day set aside to commemorate family relationships that are significant to our lives; and
WHEREAS, siblinghood comprises a relationship of equal importance as one’s relationship to his or her parents; and
WHEREAS, Siblings Day, which is to be celebrated annually April 10, was originated by Claudia A. Evart, a native New Yorker and resident of Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, the idea was invoked by the untimely deaths of both of her siblings, after which Ms. Evart devoted several years of time and effort to obtain official recognition for this day; and
WHEREAS, Siblings Day may be celebrated by sending a card or gift; making a dinner invitation; performing a good deed, favor, errand or chore; and in cases of deceased siblings, consciously holding them in our memory; and
WHEREAS, our brothers and sisters share our earliest experiences in life with a bond that grows stronger into adulthood and into our golden years; and
WHEREAS, siblings are part of the quiet times and exciting times alike, sad and happy moments, and are with us in sickness and health; and
WHEREAS, siblings represent the longest relationship in life, surpassing a parent-child relationship; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of Siblings Day in Alabama is for citizens to pay special tribute and observe the importance of siblinghood:
