Auntie Litter Earth Day Parade and Celebration
WHEREAS, Auntie Litter, Inc. is an award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting a healthy and clean environment; and
WHEREAS, through the character of "Auntie Litter" and comprehensive teaching strategies and tools, young people, their families, and educators learn how to conserve natural resources, eliminate litter in their communities, and practice the three R’s – reuse, reduce waste and recycle; and
WHEREAS, knowing the necessity of taking care of our environment today in order to secure a better tomorrow, Auntie Litter, Inc. was founded on the belief that young people, their families, and educators working together can successfully clean up the earth one community at a time; and
WHEREAS, as a leader in environmental education, Auntie Litter uses a light-hearted and unique approach to learning, bringing together thousands of people to strengthen individual ties and improve communities; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Litter’s message has reached over one million children since 1990; and
WHEREAS, April 20, 2011 will mark the 20th anniversary of Auntie Litter’s Earth Day Parade and Celebration:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 20, 2011, as the 20th Annual
Auntie Litter Earth Day
Parade and Celebration
in the State of Alabama.
