Beef for Father’s Day

WHEREAS, the beef cattle industry is one of the largest segments of the agriculture community, consisting of 28,000 cattle farms statewide and representing a two billion dollar industry; and

WHEREAS, cash receipts from the sale of cattle and calves in 2010 reached 420 million dollars, which ranks second in cash farm income among Alabama farm commodities; and

WHEREAS, Alabama has more than 1,280,000 head of cattle and calves and ranks 24th in the United States in beef cow numbers; and

WHEREAS, beef is a delicious, nutritious meat, containing high levels of zinc, iron, protein, vitamins and minerals; and

WHEREAS, the beef industry, in response to consumer demands, continues to develop versatile, healthy and high-quality beef products; and

WHEREAS, Alabama cattle producers make vital contributions to the economy of Alabama by raising healthy cattle and preserving the land for the next generation; and

WHEREAS, the 12,500 members of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association and Alabama CattleWomen’s Association encourage the people of Alabama to join with them in serving beef on Father’s Day:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim June 19, 2011, as

Beef for Father’s Day

in the state of the Alabama.
