Governor Bentley Requests Direct Federal Assistance for Alabama Public Waterways

MONTGOMERY—.Governor Bentley announced today that he has asked FEMA to provide the State with direct Federal assistance to clean the tornado storm debris from Alabama’s public waterways, primarily Lake Martin and Lake Neely. The request was made through the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.

“Alabama waterways must be cleaned of storm debris to avoid any water related accidents,” said Governor Robert Bentley. “As we enter into the summer boating season, it is imperative that any storm related debris be removed from the water.”

Alabama has requested that FEMA assign the United States Army Corps of Engineers with the mission to remove the debris.
