Hartselle’s Cotton Pickin’ Barbeque Cook-Off

WHEREAS, from the Gulf of Mexico to beyond the mighty Tennessee River, Alabama is known throughout this nation for its fine barbeque; and

WHEREAS, it has become a tradition in Alabama for men and women to compete with one another to determine whose time-tested recipes and cooking methods produce the most delicious barbeque; and

WHEREAS, Hartselle’s Cotton Pickin’ Barbeque Cook-Off attracts people from all over the country to participate or simply to enjoy fine food, entertainment and other events; and

WHEREAS, this year, Hartselle’s Cotton Pickin’ Barbeque Cook-Off is slated to take place on May 21, 2011; and

WHEREAS, Hartselle’s Cotton Pickin’ Barbeque Cook-Off has become one of the most prestigious cook-offs in our great state; it is a member of the Kansas City Barbeque Society, the Kansas City Barbeque Association, and the Alabama Barbeque Association; and

WHEREAS, designation as a state championship event allows Hartselle’s Cotton Pickin’ Barbeque Cook-Off to provide an opportunity to invite its winners to attend the state invitational competition in addition to other competitions; and

WHEREAS, state championship designation also allows competing teams to earn points to increase their standing in the rankings, though it does not affect the status of any other championship event currently held in Alabama; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby recognize

Hartselle’s Cotton Pickin’

Barbeque Cook-Off

as an official State Barbeque Championship of the State of Alabama.
