Small Business Week

WHEREAS, The Birmingham Business Alliance is a dynamic advocate, unifying voice and constant catalyst for economic development and business prosperity for the Birmingham region, and is proud to celebrate the efforts of small businesses; and

WHEREAS, The Birmingham Business Alliance’s Small Business Council is hosting its 27th installment of Small Business Week, May 16 – 20, 2011 with the purpose of spotlighting men and women, through their independent entrepreneurial spirit, who play a vital role in building our communities within the region and its economy; and

WHEREAS, The Birmingham Business Alliance has aligned their Small Business Week with the National Small Business Week as dictated by the office of the President of the United States; and

WHEREAS, during this celebration of Small Business Week 2011, The Birmingham Business Alliance’s Small Business Council will honor and recognize the achievements of small businesses in the categories of:  Small Business Advocate of the Year, Small Business Champion Award, Nonprofit of the Year, Technology/Biotechnology Company of the Year, Business Services Company of the Year, Retailer of the Year, Family-Owned Business of the Year, Emerging Business of the Year and the Centennial Award; and

WHEREAS, activities, programs and events to further highlight and recognize the achievements of the award nominees will be conducted and publicized throughout the region:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 16-May 20, 2011, as

Small Business Week

in the state of the Alabama, and encourage all businesses and citizens that posses an entrepreneurial sprit to take advantage of the opportunity to showcase, celebrate and recognize small business in your community.
