Subcontractor Month

WHEREAS, the construction industry is vital to the economy and jobs in the state of Alabama and the nation, and subcontractors perform more than 75 percent of the commercial onsite construction work, significantly enhancing the quality of life in the state; and

WHEREAS, subcontractors are specialists, building America through the performance of diverse trades ranging form plumbing, heating, interior finishing and electrical work to brick masonry, excavation, and concrete or steel frame erection; and

WHEREAS, the construction industry in Alabama has joined together to promote “Build Alabama” and has imposed a fee upon themselves designed to educate and attract workers to train for construction related jobs; and

WHEREAS, the American Subcontractor’s Association of Alabama launched a campaign to support legislation that is now ACT 2011-647, reforming construction practices that will ultimately result in more jobs for workers in Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the American Subcontractor’s Association of Alabama hosts an Industry Awards Banquet recognizing quality and excellence and paying tribute to those in all aspects of the construction industry including: General Contractor of the Year, Project Manager of the Year, Superintendent of the Year, Estimator of the Year, Architectural Firm of the Year, Engineering Firm of the Year, Subcontractor of the Year, General Contractor Safety Award, Subcontractor Safety Award, Upstart Business of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim June 2011, as

Subcontractor Month

in the State of the Alabama,  in honor and recognition of the specialty trade contractor in this state, whose accomplishments have become a lasting part of our landscape.
