United States Army Materiel Command Day

WHEREAS, the United States Army Materiel Command (AMC), now headquartered in Redstone Arsenal, is a national treasure; and

WHEREAS, focused on realizing its transformation within the Army as it continues to implement the materiel life cycle management initiative, the AMC provides cradle-to-grave management of critical weapon systems and conventional ammunition; and

WHEREAS, the AMC integrates strategic and operational processes between subordinate commands and program executive offices through product and process teams that enhance the input of logisticians into acquisition processes, improve sustainment and readiness, reduce costs, improve quality, get products to the Solider faster and implement a more holistic approach to product development and system support; and

WHEREAS, as the leading provider of materiel support for our Armed Forces, the AMC has been meeting the needs of Warfighters around the world for almost 50 years and is continuously adapting and providing our forces with the latest equipment, technological advances and a decisive edge; and

WHEREAS, with the Army Contracting Command headquarters moving to Redstone along with AMC, the Security Assistance Command moving to Redstone ahead of AMC and the Aviation and Missile Life Cycle Management Command and Logistics Support Activity operating successfully at Redstone for decades, Team Redstone and the Huntsville community are a center of gravity for AMC’s worldwide operations; and

WHEREAS, the AMC’s move to Redstone Arsenal has brought 4,700 Army and federal agency jobs to Redstone, another 5,000 defense and aerospace jobs to the surrounding areas, and an additional 9,000 indirect jobs, making the Tennessee Valley a hub for population growth; and

WHEREAS, it is with great respect that we thank General Ann E. Dunwoody and the Army Materiel Command for the significant and positive impact they have had and will continue to have on the State of Alabama:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim June 15, 2011, as

United States Army

Materiel Command Day

in the State of the Alabama, and declare that the United States Army Materiel Command is a state treasure.
