Safety in the Workplace Week

WHEREAS, in 2010, the State of Alabama reported 49 occupational-related fatalities; and

WHEREAS, in 2010, the State of Alabama reported 15,489 injuries in the workplace, resulting in worker’s compensation and medical payments of more than $690 million; and

WHEREAS, Alabama employers and employees in the public sector, private industries and businesses recognize the need to safeguard the workplace; and

WHEREAS, a safe and healthy workplace ensures the highest work environment possible; and

WHEREAS, this endeavor is worthy of our support and cooperation to reduce the toll of workplace injuries and deaths; and

WHEREAS, labor and industry within the State of Alabama seek to work together to promote workplace safety:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 29 through September 2, 2011, as

Safety in the Workplace Week

in the State of the Alabama.
