Children’s Health Month

WHEREAS, Children are our most precious resources and can be more susceptible to many environmental contaminants more than adults; and

WHEREAS, Each child deserves every opportunity to reach their fullest potential, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure they have the tools required to grow and flourish. This includes providing our young people with a healthy and safe environment in which they can live, learn, and play; and

WHEREAS, Ensuring the future, health, and welfare of our children is one of our highest responsibilities; and

WHEREAS, Awareness about environmental hazards that adversely impact children, such as lead, asthma, poor drinking water and food availability, and exposure to ultraviolet radiation from sun can greatly improve the daily environment for children exposed to these potential hazards in the environment; and

WHEREAS, Across America, countless individuals selflessly provide their time and energy in our homes, schools, and community organizations to ensure our sons and daughters may one day realize their dreams. Today, we recommit ourselves to the vision of our founders to give all our children a fair chance and an equal start in life; and

WHEREAS, I encourage our citizens and communities to come together during Children’s Health Month so that all efforts put forth to minimize these hazards will benfit our children and their future; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby do proclaim October, 2011
