Master Games of Alabama Week
WHEREAS, the 21st Masters Games of Alabama will be held on October 10 through 13, 2011, in Trussville, Alabama; and
WHEREAS, the Masters Games of Alabama is a competition for persons aged 55 years and older, who participate in sporting events including golf, checkers, shuffleboard, swimming, tennis, horseshoes, volleyball, basketball and track; and
WHEREAS, organizations and businesses including the Trussville Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Trussville, the Department of Aging Services, the Alabama Department of Senior Services, Area Agencies on Aging, the Jefferson County Commission, the City of Trussville, Oxford Healthcare and the Governor’s Commission on Physical Fitness have shown their support of the Games; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Alabama recognize the importance of physical fitness and nurturing active and constructive leisure habits in developing not only the physical aspect of health, but also the mental and emotional aspect; and
WHEREAS, recognizing physical fitness is a lifelong pursuit encompassing all ages and levels of athletic ability:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 10 through 13, 2011, as
Master Games of Alabama Week
in the State of Alabama.
