The Magic City Classic Bar-B-Que Cookoff

WHEREAS, in the tailgating tradition of the Magic City Classic, The Magic City Classic Bar-B-Que Cookoff, held at Birmingham, Alabama’s Legion Field, will allow participants to showcase their cooking styles; and

WHEREAS, currently, The Magic City Classic is the largest black football classic in the country; and

WHEREAS, known for a football game rich in tradition, The Magic City Classic weekend is a time to reunite friends and family from Alabama State and Alabama A&M Universities from all over the country; and

WHEREAS, The Magic City Classic Bar-B-Que Cookoff was the concept of the alumni associations of both universities; both of which are dedicated to promoting and supporting their respective schools and assisting students financially; and

WHEREAS, The Magic City Classic Bar-B-Que Cookoff is sanctioned by the International Barbeque Cookers Association (IBCA), and will draw contestants from all over the State of Alabama, as well as several other states each year; and

WHEREAS, with state championship designation, competing teams will earn points to increase their standings in the rankings, as well as be entered into drawings for other National Barbeque competitions; and

WHEREAS, the top three winners from The Magic City Classic Bar-B-Que Cookoff are eligible to participate in the IBCA Cook-off:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby recognize

The Magic City Classic

Bar-B-Que Cookoff

as an official State Barbeque Championship of the State of Alabama and declare the top three winners champions for the State of Alabama.
