Energy Awareness Month

WHEREAS, Alabama needs a reliable, continuous supply of affordable energy to ensure an economically stable future; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary that we find ways to reduce the burden of energy costs on Alabama citizens; and

WHEREAS, raising public awareness of energy efficiency and the use of renewable resources is a key component to energy conservation; and

WHEREAS, Alabama citizens must be encouraged to prioritize energy efficiency and alternative fuel usage and recognize the importance of taking steps to conserve their energy use; and

WHEREAS, it is crucial that we explore new options for energy sources and work to develop our natural resources to secure the future of Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the Energy Division of the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Energy is committed to promote, through public awareness, the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy; and

WHEREAS, with strong leadership at all levels of government and with the sustainable cooperation of business, industry, energy providers and concerned consumers, we can implement sound energy policies and practices that are essential to Alabama’s well being:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 2011, as

Energy Awareness Month

in the State of the Alabama.
