Weatherization Day

WHEREAS, October is National Energy Awareness Month, and October 30th is designated as National Weatherization Day; and

WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has a long standing commitment to conserve its resources and to help low-income households through its Weatherization Assistance Program; and

WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has administered the Weatherization Assistance Program since its inception in 1976, providing a variety of state and federal resources through fifteen community action agencies, one county commission and departments of local government that serve people in every county in the state; and

WHEREAS, funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will enable the State of Alabama to assist more than 6,500 additional Alabama households in need of weatherization assistance; and

WHEREAS, it is important to recognize the value of those programs that ensure that all residents, especially those living at or below the federal poverty level, have the opportunity to live in energy efficient, healthy, safe, and comfortable homes as provided for by the Weatherization Assistance Program:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 30, 2011, as

Weatherization Day

in the State of the Alabama and encourage all citizens to join me in this observance.
