Winter Weather Awareness Week

WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Alabama have been affected by significant winter weather events over the years, including extended periods of frigid temperatures, snow and ice; and

WHEREAS, preparedness, planning an increased public awareness of specific dangers produced by winter weather have been shown to reduce the number of fatalities as well as the disruption to the lives of and the cost to citizens; and

WHEREAS, to draw attention to the need for Alabamians to be vigilant and prepared for the 2011-2012 winter weather season, the National Weather Service, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency and local Emergency Management Agencies across the state hereby urge all citizens to review their personal safety measures to be employed during extreme winter weather, including their ability to receive weather warnings in a timely fashion:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim November 14 through November 18, 2011, as

in the State of the Alabama.
