Crime Stoppers Month

WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers is an international organization consisting of more than 1,300 programs in 23 countries, with every state in the United States represented, all of which form a network dedicated to solving crimes in each local jurisdiction; and

WHEREAS, as a community-based non-profit organization operating on private-sector donations, Crime Stoppers has solved over 1.6 million felony crimes, recovered $2.3 billion in stolen property, and $8.1 billion in illegal drugs since it began in 1976; and

WHEREAS, Crime Stoppers works with law enforcement agencies of all jurisdictions, the news media and citizens from all walks of life to perform this vital service; and

WHEREAS, Alabama has participated in the International Crime Stoppers networking efforts since January 8, 1981, and it now has 13 programs actively running within the state; and

WHEREAS, the efforts of Crime Stoppers deserve our praise, commendation and support:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim January 2012, as

Crime Stoppers Month

in the State of the Alabama.
