Natural Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Month
WHEREAS, Alabama is dedicated to enhancing and preserving the health and safety of all citizens, especially in times of natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of the State of Alabama have suffered significant losses and unprecedented effects from natural disasters in the past, most recently during the unprecedented April 2011 tornadoes; and
WHEREAS, appropriate preparation and increased public awareness of the dangers associated with natural disasters will help avoid injuries and save lives; and
WHEREAS, Alabama is committed to fostering an increased awareness in its citizens about the importance of disaster preparedness; and
WHEREAS, Alabamians require sufficient resources in order to prepare their families, homes and communities for such disasters; and
WHEREAS, Alabamians are urged to take action to protect themselves and their families by developing a disaster plan and compiling an emergency supply kit; and
WHEREAS, both an individual and community responsibility, preparedness must start in the home to strengthen community response in the event of a natural disaster:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2012, as
Natural Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Month
in the State of the Alabama.
