Alabama Saves Week
WHEREAS, personal and household savings is fundamental to economic development and prosperity in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, adequate emergency savings, saving at tax time, saving at school, college savings accounts, retirement funds, individual development accounts and financial education are critical components of household financial security, community wealth and individual success; and
WHEREAS, savings is important to college access and success; and
WHEREAS, household savings promotes economic mobility and the pursuit of the American Dream; and
WHEREAS, Alabama ranks low nationally on indicators such as median household net worth, homeownership and the share of “unbanked” households; and
WHEREAS, personal and household savings is fundamental to growing a vital economy and building a strong middle class in Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Alabama Saves is affiliated with America Saves, a national campaign to persuade, encourage and motivate Americans to take financial action in building wealth through setting financial goals and saving money; and
WHEREAS, the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and the Alabama Saves Coalition are committed to helping Alabamians take immediate financial action to save and build assets:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim February 19 through 26, 2012 as
Alabama Saves Week
in the state of Alabama.
