Deaf Awareness Week

WHEREAS, March 12 through 16, 2012 marks the celebration of “Deaf Awareness Week,” and recognizes the agencies and individuals that provide support for the enhancement of economic, social and cultural lives of the deaf and hard-of-hearing population; and

WHEREAS, this celebration is dedicated to promoting education and employment among persons who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, and recognizes their achievements and capabilities; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind in Talladega has provided education programs to persons who are deaf and hard-of-hearing for 154 years; and

WHEREAS, the state of Alabama offers wholehearted support and best wishes to all observers and participants for a renewed spirit of togetherness and commitment to improve the quality of life for the deaf and hard-of-hearing population:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim March 12 through 16, 2012 as

Deaf Awareness Week

in the state of Alabama.
