Youth Art Month

WHEREAS, art education supplies students in elementary, middle and secondary school with powerful educational benefits including developing students’ creative problem-solving and critical thinking abilities; and

WHEREAS, art education teaches sensitivity to beauty, order and other expressive qualities; and

WHEREAS, students gain a deeper understanding of multi-cultural values and beliefs when art education is taught at an early age; and

WHEREAS, art education reinforces what students learn in other areas of life and interrelates student learning in art production, art criticism and aesthetics; and

WHEREAS, national leaders have acknowledged the necessity of including art programs in all students’ education:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim March 2012, as

Youth Art Month

in the state of Alabama and urge all citizens to support quality school art programs for children and youth.
