Day of Service

WHEREAS, in the aftermath of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes that devastated our state, Alabamians responded by coming together to help our communities and neighborhoods recover and rebuild through volunteer efforts; and

WHEREAS, Alabamians expressed their concern and devotion to each other by taking action and offering their time, skills and monetary donations to help those in need; and

WHEREAS, volunteering is an unselfish service that can transform lives and communities across our state and the entire nation; and

WHEREAS, even after the national spotlight faded last Spring, record numbers of volunteers continued to help Alabama get back on her feet; and

WHEREAS, to pay tribute those loved ones we lost, we can join together as a state to continue to give of ourselves and rebuild Sweet Home Alabama:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 28, 2012, as a

Day of Service

in the state of Alabama, and encourage all citizens to join together in serving their communities and neighborhoods in honor of the victims and survivors of the April 27, 2011 tornadoes.
