National Water Safety Month

WHEREAS, citizens of Alabama recognize the vital role that swimming and aquatic activities play in maintaining good physical and mental health, and enhancing the quality of life for all people; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Alabama understand that Water Safety Education is essential to preventing drownings and recreational water-related injuries; and

WHEREAS, Alabamians are aware of the contributions of the recreational water industry, as represented by the organizations involved in the National Water Safety Month Coalition; and

WHEREAS, these contributions add to the quality of life in our community and include developing safe swimming facilities, aquatic programs, home pools and spas; providing healthy locations for recreational activities; allowing children to learn and grow, and build self esteem, confidence and a sense of self-worth; and

WHEREAS, Alabamians recognize the recreational water industry’s ongoing efforts and commitment to educate the public about pool and spa safety issues and initiatives; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of Alabama understand the vital importance of communicating Water Safety rules and programs to families and individuals of all ages, whether they are owners of private pools, patrons of public swimming facilities or visitors to water parks:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of May 2012, as

National Water Safety Month

in the state of Alabama and urge that all citizens promote this observance.
