Amateur Radio Week

WHEREAS, the state of Alabama is home to more than 9,000 licensed amateur radio operators who repeatedly demonstrate their immense value to the citizens of this state by providing emergency communications during natural disasters and other non-weather related calamities; and

WHEREAS, these amateur radio operators generously operate privately owned communications resources for the welfare and common good of Alabama’s citizenry; and

WHEREAS, these radio operators diligently monitor amateur radio frequencies in preparation for any emergency on a state and worldwide basis; and

WHEREAS, these amateur radio operators always practice and refine their communication skills, especially during the American Radio Relay League’s (ARRL) annual Field Day exercises; and

WHEREAS, the annual Amateur Radio Field Day event is June 23 through June 24, 2012:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim June 18 through June 24, 2012, as

Amateur Radio Week

in the state of the Alabama, and recognize the  value of these voluntary communication services and urge all citizens to pay tribute to these selfless ambassadors of goodwill.
