College Colors Day

WHEREAS, College Colors Day, seeks to celebrate and promote the traditions and spirit that make the college experience great by encouraging faculty, staff,  alumni, students, and fans to wear apparel of their favorite college throughout the day of August 31, 2012; and

WHEREAS, 13 public universities are located in Alabama, providing educational opportunities to thousands Alabama residents and non-residents; and

WHEREAS, for more than 175 years, Alabama colleges and universities have been educating citizens of the State of Alabama; and

WHEREAS, academic and athletic achievement in the State of Alabama provide scholarship opportunities to thousands of young men and women; and

WHEREAS, College Colors Day promotes higher education in Alabama through increased public awareness and celebrating the contributions of colleges and universities in our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 31, 2012, as

College Colors Day

in the state of the Alabama.
