Stand Down Alabama 2012
WHEREAS, the Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System, has provided community-based services to veterans of all wars and eras, and their families, for more than seven decades; and
WHEREAS, the Central Alabama Veterans Healthcare System, in conjunction with the State of Alabama, local veterans organizations, active duty military commands, local, state and federal agencies, and volunteers will be holding Stand Down Alabama 2012 on August 14 through August 16; and
WHEREAS, Stand Down was designed and implemented in 1988, and is now replicated in more than 90 cities across America; it is a nationally recognized effort to assist homeless veterans; and
WHEREAS, Stand Down has proven to be a very successful rehabilitation program, leveraging community support and resources in a volunteer effort that assists up to one third of Stand Down participants in achieving sobriety and employment; and
WHEREAS, homeless veterans who have courageously provided vital service to America and our community both in peace and in war, are provided valuable services at Stand Downs; and
WHEREAS, the Stand Down program has been endorsed by local, state and national leaders:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim August 14 through August 16, 2012 as
Stand Down Alabama 2012
in the state of the Alabama, and commend the participants and organizers of the Stand Down Alabama 2012 project.
