National Sickle Cell Awareness Month
WHEREAS, Sickle Cell Anemia is a devastating disease affecting thousands of people in our state and across the nation; and
WHEREAS, the suffering of those afflicted with this dreaded disease is often unheard; and
WHEREAS, those that have lost the battle to Sickle Cell Disease are not forgotten; and
WHEREAS, there are eight Sickle Cell Foundations across the state of Alabama working to improve the quality of life for those fighting Sickle Cell Disease by providing sickle cell counseling, screening, education, emotional support and financial support to the patients and their families; and
WHEREAS, there are three comprehensive Sickle Cell Clinics in the state of Alabama providing medical needs to adult and pediatric Sickle Cell patients; and
WHEREAS, the month of September has been proclaimed National Sickle Cell Awareness Month:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2012 as
National Sickle Cell Awareness Month
in the state of Alabama.
