Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority Day
WHEREAS, Alpha Omicron Pi was founded on January 2, 1897, at Barnard College in New York City, New York, by four collegians: Stella George Stern-Perry, Jessie Wallace Hughan, Helen St. Clair Mullan and Elizabeth Heywood Wyman; and
WHEREAS, Alpha Omicron Pi is an organization committed to enriching the lives of women through values of lifelong friendship and commitment to inspiring an exceptional member experience while developing highly respected servant leaders; and
WHEREAS, the members of this outstanding organization are dedicated to improving the quality of life within their communities through service; and
WHEREAS, this renowned sisterhood sponsors many community service projects that have benefitted countless individuals who have been diagnosed with arthritis, so that by working with the Arthritis foundation through events such as Jingle Bell Run and Strike ‘Em Out, those diagnosed may find support and potential cures; and
WHEREAS, it is both proper and rewarding to honor the ladies of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority for their diligent service and remarkable leadership; and
WHEREAS, members from the nine collegiate chapters of Alpha Omicron Pi in the state of Alabama, along with honored Alumnae and the Alumnae Advisory Council , convene at 10:00 a.m., the morning of April 6, 2013, at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama, in order to spend a day seeking knowledge in community service and leadership:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 6, 2013, as
Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority Day
in the state of Alabama, and do hereby commend the members of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority for their outstanding community service.
