Space Warriors Day

WHEREAS, Alabama is the birthplace of America’s Space Program; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center is home to one of the nation’s largest collection of space artifacts; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, an agency of the State of Alabama, serves as the official NASA Visitor Information Center for the Marshall Space Flight Center; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, with its continuing mission of inspiring our nation’s young people through its renowned educational programs like Space Camp and Aviation Challenge, is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading space science museums, featuring the original Saturn V lunar rocket vehicle, also developed in Huntsville, and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Southeast; and

WHEREAS, the U. S. Space & Rocket Center has worked diligently to help promote Alabama as a destination location for tourists and travelers from around the world; and

WHEREAS, the movie Space Warriors was filmed entirely on location at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, millions of viewers in theaters, on the Hallmark Channel and those who buy DVD’s will witness, first hand, the value of Alabama, the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and Space Camp:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim April 25, 2013, as

Space Warriors Day

in the state of Alabama.
