Caribbean Heritage Month
WHEREAS, the state of Alabama is home to many individuals of diverse cultures, heritages and backgrounds, which make our state unique and endearing to all; and
WHEREAS, immigrants from Caribbean countries have journeyed to America for centuries; some came through the bondage of slavery, while others willfully left behind the world they knew in search of a better life; and
WHEREAS, regardless of the circumstances that led to their arrival in America, they had faith that their descendents would have a chance to realize their greatest potential; and
WHEREAS, the state of Alabama takes pride in the many contributions Caribbean-Americans continue to make to the betterment of our state’s progress; their achievements are born of hard work and ambition, an achievement in which our state can be proud; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that we pause to celebrate the rich history and vibrant culture Caribbean-Americans have brought to the state of Alabama:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2013, as
Caribbean Heritage Month
in the state of Alabama.
