Let’s Move! Day

WHEREAS, Camp Faith Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc., is celebrating 14 years of service providing positive and enriching activities to children and youth in Harris, Meriwether, Muscogee and Troup Counties in Georgia and in Phenix City, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, Camp Faith Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc., has provided 300 students the opportunity to explore colleges and universities with campus tours to schools in Alabama, California, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, On October 27, 2007, Camp Faith Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc., received national honors from The Daily Points of Light Award in Washington, D.C., and was featured on its national website that day for its work with youth around the Southeast; and

WHEREAS, The Daily Points of Light Award honors those who have made a commitment to secure the fundamental resources needed to lead a productive life for all Americans, especially young people; and

WHEREAS, in 2010, First Lady Michelle Obama launched the “Let’s Move!” campaign with an ambitious national goal of solving the challenge of childhood obesity within a generation so that children born today will reach adulthood at a healthy weight; Camp Faith Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc., joined with this campaign that same year; and

WHEREAS, Alabama ranks high among southern states in childhood obesity; nearly one in every three children in our nation is obese and overweight; the number is even higher in African-American and Hispanic communities where nearly 40 percent of the children are overweight or obese; there are 150 youth at the Phenix City Housing Authority that have participated in the “Let’s Move!” campaign; and

WHEREAS, Nolle Stewart RD, LD, Clinical Dietitian, East Alabama Medical Center gave the nutrition presentation in 2012 and will give the presentation again on May 28, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Camp Faith Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc., will continue to offer the “Let’s Move!” presentation for children and youth at the Phenix City Housing Authority; and

WHEREAS, Camp Faith Pine Mountain Enrichment Services, Inc., is committed to the mission to help educate people on childhood obesity:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 28, 2013, as

Let’s Move! Day

in the state of Alabama.
