Surgical Technologist Week

WHEREAS, surgical technologists play a vital role in the care and health of surgical patients, and currently, all major hospitals within Alabama employ these professionals to work with surgeons and in alliance with the perioperative nurse in the operating room to provide direct and quality patient care; and

WHEREAS, qualified surgical technologists contribute an invaluable service to patients undergoing frightening and unfamiliar surgical procedures; and

WHEREAS, surgical technologists are responsible for the environmental disinfection of the operating room, ensuring that equipment functions properly and facilitating safe and effective conduct during invasive surgical procedures, striving to prevent life-threatening surgical site infections and maximize patient safety; and

WHEREAS, surgical technologists are integral members of the surgical team that has grown to meet the ever-increasing demand for well-educated, highly-skilled, versatile and professional individuals to assist in the delivery of a rapidly advancing technical field; and

WHEREAS, the surgical technologist’s motto is “Aeger Primo”, or “patient first”, reflecting both the priority and total commitment to patient treatment and advocacy:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the week of September 15 through September 21, 2013, as
