National Case Management Week

WHEREAS, the history of case management goes back to the early 1900’s when public health nurses and social workers coordinated services throughout the public health sector; and

WHEREAS, by World War II, insurance companies began employing nurses and social workers to assist with the coordination of care for our soldiers returning from war; and

WHEREAS, by the 1990’s, the number of case managers rose to more than 100,000, and their focus included cost containment and quality management issues; and

WHEREAS, case management is not a profession in itself, but an area of practice within one’s profession; and

WHEREAS, case managers are primarily nurses, social workers and other allied health professionals, such as rehabilitation counselors and therapists; and

WHEREAS, thousands of citizens of the state of Alabama have benefitted from case managers; and

WHEREAS, the Case Management Society of America (CMSA) announces October 13 through October 19, 2013, as National Case Management Week; and

WHEREAS, Case Managers provide dedicated and compassionate care in an increasingly intense and demanding environment; and

WHEREAS, Case Managers enrich and improve the health of the residents of our great state:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the week of October 13 through October 19, 2013, as

National Case Management Week

in the state of Alabama.
