School Bus Safety Week
WHEREAS, the 2013 National School Bus Safety Week theme is Stand Back from the Yellow and Black; and
WHEREAS, the safety record for school bus transportation exceeds that of all other modes of travel; and
WHEREAS, each school day throughout the United States, more than 25 million students are transported more than 5.7 billion miles to and from school; and
WHEREAS, the transportation of students involves approximately 480,000 school bus drivers, whose primary concern is the safety of their important passengers; and
WHEREAS, in Alabama, more than 375,000 students are transported to school and home again daily by more than 9,400 school buses; and
WHEREAS, the drivers of these school buses travel more than 82 million route miles each year in Alabama and have achieved an enviable safety record; and
WHEREAS, Alabama’s school bus driver certification programs, careful maintenance of school buses and regular school bus inspections are primary factors in achieving this outstanding safety record:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim October 21 through October 25, 2013, as
School Bus Safety Week
in the state of the Alabama.
