Year of the Alabama Geological Society

WHEREAS, the Alabama Geological Society was established at meetings of professional geologists in 1963 and was chartered by the state of Alabama on November 1, 1964; and

WHEREAS, geology and the earth sciences are fundamental to society and our quality of life by helping to find, to develop and to conserve Alabama’s abundant energy and water resources to the ultimate good and benefit of the people of Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Geological Society provides a forum for the exchange and dissemination of scientific information and practice among the professional geologists in the state of Alabama, promotes geology as a profession and as a science, encourages friendship and cooperation among all members and branches of the profession, fosters high standards of education and ethics among the membership of the Society, accumulates and makes available geological knowledge and encourages public appreciation of the utility and application of geological science; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Geological Society has conducted an Annual Field Trip each year and has conducted specialized workshops and training programs which provide for the exchange of scientific knowledge and the continuing education of registered Professional Geologists, students and other practicing geologists; and

WHEREAS, throughout the years of 2013 and 2014, the Alabama Geological Society will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of its founding and charter and 50 years of service to the people of the state of Alabama:
