ALIDA Read Now Run Day

WHEREAS, the Alabama Branch of the International Dyslexia Association (ALIDA) is a charitable organization whose mission is to continue to improve the lives of individuals with dyslexia through awareness activities, teacher training and professional development; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Branch of the International Dyslexia Association is hosting the 2014 ALIDA Read Now Run which begins on March 8, 2014, in Auburn, Alabama; and

WHEREAS, the 2014 ALIDA Read Now Run is a running or walking event to provide Orton-Gillingham/Multisensory Structured Language Education (MSLE) based reading professional development to teachers in the Auburn area; and

WHEREAS, the 2014 ALIDA Read Now Run involves the community, educators, families, children and all individuals to run or walk in an event designated to raise funds to provide teacher training in explicit, systematic and sequential strategies in reading; and

WHEREAS, this public event brings awareness and exposure to the challenges and gifts of those with dyslexia and others who struggle to read with inaccurate word recognition, poor spelling and difficulty decoding; and

WHEREAS, observing the 2014 ALIDA Read Now Run Day encourages individuals, families, businesses and organizations to promote the necessity of learning to read, to raise awareness of the challenges and gifts of dyslexia, to heighten the importance of teacher professional development and to recognize the value of multisensory structured reading education:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim March 8, 2014 as

ALIDA Read Now Run Day

in the state of Alabama.
