Governor Bentley Statement on Senate Rejection of ASU Nominees

MONTGOMERY – Governor Robert Bentley on Wednesday issued the following statement on the Senate Confirmations Committee’s rejection of two highly-qualified Alabama State University board nominees:

“I am extremely disappointed that the Senate Confirmations Committee rejected two highly-qualified candidates to the Alabama State University Board of Trustees. It is unfortunate that committee members chose to put politics over the best interests of Alabama State. Fitzgerald Washington and Dr. Jacqueline Brooks were excellent nominees and should have been confirmed. We will now move forward with selecting two new candidates who will support ASU’s new president, Dr. Gwendolyn Boyd, and her efforts to move the university forward.”
