2-1-1 Day

WHEREAS, thousands of Alabamians have a need to access a variety of human and social service needs each day, ranging from appropriate childcare to affordable housing, support for a homebound parent to food or crisis counseling for teen parents; and

WHEREAS, 2-1-1 Connects Alabama was established in 1999 to provide an easy to remember, toll-free number that connects callers to critical health and human services available in their community 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

WHEREAS, 2-1-1 Connects Alabama maintains the only comprehensive health and human services resource database accessible by the 2-1-1 dial code with free access to community resources through information and referral; and

WHEREAS, thousands of local, regional and statewide organizations in Alabama, both public and private, provide services that respond to these needs; and

WHEREAS, the process of connecting those living and working in Alabama with needed services has been simplified by the establishment of a 2-1-1 service; and

WHEREAS, 2-1-1 is available to 100 percent of the Alabama population via landline telephones, with more than nine active 2-1-1 call centers in Alabama; and

WHEREAS, 2-1-1 continues to make a positive impact daily in the State of Alabama:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of February 11, 2015, as

2-1-1 Day

in the state of Alabama.
