Nutrition Month
WHEREAS, National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign created annually in March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; and
WHEREAS, the campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits; and
WHEREAS, food is the substance by which life is sustained; and
WHEREAS, the type, quality and amount of food that individuals consume each day plays a vital role in their overall health and physical fitness; and
WHEREAS, there is a need for continuing nutrition education and a wide-scale effort to enhance healthy eating practices in the state of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, diet and nutrition have never been more important in our fight against obesity and chronic disease; and
WHEREAS, with the multitude of unhealthy dietary choices available today, it is important for us to remember that fresh fruits, vegetables and low-fat protein are essential to keeping our bodies healthy; and
WHEREAS, adequate nutrition is a necessity for the critical maintenance of good health and a good quality life:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim March 2015, as
Nutrition Month
in the state of Alabama.
