Be the Feet of Change Community Service Day

WHEREAS, Alabama Be the Feet of Change Community Service Day is a campaign that celebrates and mobilizes Alabama’s children and their families to improve their communities each day of the year through community service and service learning; and

WHEREAS, Miss Troy University 2015 Hannah McDonald created and established Alabama Be the Feet of Change Community Service Day to encourage Alabama’s children with the motto “No Matter what Shoe you Wear, Be the Feet of Change;” and

WHEREAS, the first Saturday of May was selected as Alabama Be the Feet of Change Community Service Day to acknowledge the various volunteer services and community service projects available to Alabama’s children and their families during the summer school break; and

WHEREAS, Miss Troy University 2015 Hannah McDonald, her rising star Mylee Mae Kervin and many of Alabama’s children are planning to perform various acts of volunteerism and community service not only on May 2, 2015, but through the summer school break; and

WHEREAS, high quality community service and service-learning programs increase Alabama children’s academic engagement and achievement, workforce readiness and 21st Century skills, social, emotional and behavioral skills; and

WHEREAS, community service and service-learning provides opportunities for children to apply their knowledge, idealism, energy, creativity and unique perspectives to improve their communities by addressing a myriad of critical issues, such as health, education, illiteracy, poverty, hunger, environment, climate change, violence, community beautification, senior and youth connection, and natural disasters:

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 2, 2015, as

Be the Feet of Change Community Service Day

in the state of Alabama.
