Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Awareness Month
WHEREAS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) is often characterized by painful heightening sensitivity to very small amounts of indoor and outdoor air pollution, petrochemicals and other everyday toxins; and
WHEREAS, MCS is a chronic debilitating condition for which there is no known cure, causing financial, employment, learning, housing, health, social and other consequences; and
WHEREAS, the symptoms people report are wide-ranging. They include headache, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, congestion, itching, sneezing, sore throat, chest pain, changes in heart rhythm, breathing problems, muscle pain or stiffness, skin rash, diarrhea, bloating, gas, confusion, trouble concentrating, memory problems, and mood changes; and
WHEREAS, today’s number one treatment is the avoidance of toxic chemicals; and
WHEREAS, there are diagnostic codes readily available for toxic effects of many chemicals found in the everyday environment:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 2015, as
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Awareness Month
in the state of the Alabama.
