Municipal Government Week
WHEREAS, municipal government in Alabama represents the government closest to the people; and
WHEREAS, municipal governments make important decisions affecting the lives of all Alabamians, which includes providing essential services such as police and fire protection, garbage collection, infrastructure installation and maintenance, utility services and numerous recreational and economic development opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the state of Alabama has 462 incorporated municipalities; and
WHEREAS, being closest to the people, municipal governments are the ultimate expression of grassroots democracy; and
WHEREAS, municipal officials provide valuable service as they serve their communities; and
WHEREAS, on May 16 through 19, 2015, the Alabama League of Municipalities hold their annual convention in Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim May 17 through 23, 2015, as
Municipal Government Week
in the state of Alabama.
