Scoliosis Awareness Month
WHEREAS, it is important to increase public awareness of scoliosis to help children, parents, health care workers and others understand, recognize and treat complex spinal deformities; and
WHEREAS, scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine which can lead to lifelong health issues and affects an estimated 7 million people in the United States and about 100,000 in the state of Alabama; and
WHEREAS, scoliosis affects people of all races and socio-economic groups equally; and
WHEREAS, screening programs allow for early detection and treatment which can ameliorate the long term effects of scoliosis; and
WHEREAS, National Scoliosis Month is an opportunity to renew our commitment to increasing awareness of scoliosis and improving our understanding of this condition through research and innovation:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert Bentley, Governor of Alabama, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2015, as
Scoliosis Awareness Month
in the state of Alabama.
